The Anambra State Government has received two 40-foot containers of medical equipment donated by MedShare in partnership with The Coca-Cola Company through the Safe Birth Initiative programme.

The medical supplies were officially received by the State Hospital Administrator, Dr. Frank Ifeanaeme, as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve maternal and child health services across the state.

The donation followed an earlier assessment carried out in Anambra to identify urgent medical equipment needs in public health facilities.

The Safe Birth Initiative is focused on reducing maternal and newborn deaths in Nigeria by supporting hospitals with essential medical equipment, maintenance services, and technical training for healthcare personnel.

As part of the programme, MedShare recently organized intensive training sessions for biomedical engineers and technicians in Anambra State. The training concentrated on the repair and maintenance of medical equipment to ensure both newly donated and existing devices remain functional and effective.

Speaking on the development, Dr. Ifeanaeme described the training programme as a vital aspect of the initiative, noting that it would improve the durability and performance of medical equipment in hospitals across the state.

He said the practical training would equip participants with the technical knowledge required for effective equipment maintenance, ultimately enhancing healthcare service delivery and patient care.

The donated items, totaling 438 medical equipment and supplies, include baby incubators, baby warmers, oxygen concentrators, nebulizers, hospital beds with mattresses, medical refrigerators, wheelchairs, Ambu bags, and X-ray Kodak screens, among others.

According to the hospital administrator, installation of the equipment in selected health facilities across Anambra State will begin soon.
