The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 76-year-old man, Francis Omofa, who confessed to being involved in illicit drug trade in the last decade.

Omofa was apprehended on Tuesday, June 18, when NDLEA personnel intercepted a white Nissan Frontier pick-up at Kiyi village in the Kuje area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The vehicle, bearing amber lights and a fake security agency registration number, was found to be transporting 454 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa weighing 340.8 kilogrammes.

The drug was reportedly procured from Uzeba, Edo State.

In a separate operation on Wednesday, June 19, NDLEA officers in Lagos seized a disguised consignment of 8.2 kilograms of methamphetamine at a motor park in Mazamaza, Ojo.

NDLEA operatives also conducted a raid on Saturday, June 22, 2024, in Usen forest, Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State. This operation led to the arrest of Obi Ferguson, 45, and Ernest Abanum, 46, and the seizure of 209 kilogrammes of cannabis and a motorcycle.

According to a statement released by Femi Babafemi, Director of Media & Advocacy at NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, on Sunday, the incident occurred on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.

The agency disclosed that the addictive substance, often referred to as ice or crystal meth, was cleverly hidden within imported Dunkin’ turtle love chocolate wrappers and encased inside three loudspeakers.

Michael Odiomume, a 39-year-old suspect responsible for sending the consignment to Owerri, Imo State, was promptly apprehended at the park.

NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the efforts of the officers in Edo, Lagos, and FCT Commands. He emphasiSed the agency’s balanced approach in reducing both drug supply and demand through the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative.
