ZAMFARA / KATSINA – The Nigerian Army has confirmed that its troops rescued 31 kidnapped victims and neutralised five terrorists during coordinated military operations conducted across parts of Zamfara and Katsina States.
The operations, according to military sources, were carried out in response to ongoing security threats and intelligence reports indicating the movement of armed groups within affected communities in the North-West region.
The rescued victims were reportedly abducted during separate incidents before being located and freed by troops engaged in clearance and search-and-rescue missions across identified hideouts.
The Nigerian Army stated that the successful operations form part of intensified efforts to degrade terrorist and kidnapping networks operating in the region.
Military officials explained that troops engaged the armed groups in multiple encounters, leading to the neutralisation of five suspects believed to be involved in recent attacks and abductions.
The operations also resulted in the recovery of weapons and other items believed to have been used by the criminal elements during their activities.
Authorities confirmed that the rescued victims have been handed over to relevant agencies for medical evaluation, psychological support, and reunification with their families.
Security analysts note that the North-West region has remained one of the hotspots for kidnapping and armed banditry in Nigeria, prompting sustained military interventions in recent years.
The Nigerian Army emphasized that its troops remain committed to dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace to affected communities through continuous operations.
Residents in parts of Zamfara and Katsina have repeatedly called for stronger security presence following recurring attacks, abductions, and rural community invasions.
Military spokespersons assured the public that ongoing operations will be sustained to ensure that remaining criminal hideouts are identified and neutralised.
The army also urged residents to support security efforts by providing timely and credible intelligence that could assist in operational planning and execution.
Community leaders in affected areas have welcomed the rescue operation, describing it as a positive step toward restoring confidence among residents who have faced persistent insecurity.
Security experts, however, caution that long-term stability will require not only military action but also improved governance, economic development, and community engagement strategies.
The latest operation adds to a series of recent military efforts aimed at reducing the activities of armed groups across northern Nigeria, where insecurity has significantly impacted daily life and economic activities.
As operations continue, the Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens and restoring normalcy across troubled regions in the country.
