Bala Mohammed raises alarm over PDP crisis
DDM News

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has raised concerns about the escalating discontent within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that many prominent founding members and senior figures are contemplating leaving the party.
Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that Bala Mohammed fears these departures could seriously weaken the PDP, impacting its chances in the upcoming elections.
In an interview with BBC Hausa Service on Saturday, Governor Bala Mohammed revealed that many party members have lost trust in the leadership, pointing to the ongoing leadership crisis that has plagued the PDP for an extended period.
Bala Mohammed emphasized that the lack of resolution to these issues has led to growing dissatisfaction within the party and warned that continued instability could lead to irreparable damage and fragmentation.
“PDP members have completely lost trust and hope in the party,” Bala Mohammed said.
He also suggested that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may be behind some of the instability within the PDP, claiming that the APC has possibly planted individuals or hired moles within the party’s leadership to sow discord and weaken its unity.
Bala Mohammed cited the recent defection of former Sokoto State Governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, as an indication that more influential members of the PDP may follow suit.
“You mentioned Attahiru Bafarawa leaving the party, but I can assure you that more individuals of higher rank and influence are considering departing,” Bala Mohammed remarked.
The governor also shared details of a recent meeting with PDP youth leaders, where he appealed for patience and unity among the party’s founding members.
Bala Mohammed acknowledged the frustrations within the party but stressed that resolving the leadership crisis was critical.
He further warned that if the party does not act swiftly to address these internal challenges, it could play into the hands of the APC, leading to the party’s potential collapse.
“Many members are considering forming another political party, but it won’t have the same impact as the PDP,” Bala Mohammed stated.
He reiterated that the founding members are tired of the party’s leadership and administrative instability, with some contemplating leaving soon.
However, Bala Mohammed chose not to name the individuals involved, expressing his desire to prevent them from leaving the party.
Despite the turmoil, Bala Mohammed called for those disgruntled members to reconsider their decisions and remain patient while the party works through its internal issues.
Some of the aggrieved members, he confirmed, are making plans to join smaller parties as a backup plan for the 2027 general elections.
