Terror bandits have executed a new wave of attacks in Kwara State, kidnapping a family of three during a daytime operation and abducting over 15 others in separate overnight raids across Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
The daytime attack reportedly took place on Thursday afternoon in Olodan, Ora District, where armed terrorists stormed the community and abducted a man, his wife, and their child.
According to a source, the unfortunate attack has heightened fear among residents, who said the security situation in the area is seriously getting bad.
“There was kidnapping too at Olodan in Ora District this afternoon. Three people were involved — a family of three: husband, wife and child,” the source said.
In another development, at least 15 individuals were reportedly abducted during overnight attacks in Kajola and Idi-Iya Fulani Camp, both located near Yaru in the Igbaja District of the same local government area.
Efforts to rescue the victims have so far been unsuccessful, despite attempts by local security organizations.
A source revealed that a joint rescue team comprising Forest Guards, local hunters, and vigilante groups from Ifelodun and neighbouring Isin Local Government Areas combed the forests throughout the day but failed to secure the release of any of the abducted victims.
“Efforts of the rescue team comprising Forest Guards, hunters and vigilante squad from Ifelodun and Isin LGAs throughout the day proved abortive,” the source said.
The latest incidents have intensified concerns about rising insecurity in Kwara State, particularly in the southern part, where residents have repeatedly complained about inadequate security presence.
Meanwhile, community members are urging the state government and federal security agencies to urgently deploy additional security operatives and strengthen intelligence operations in the affected areas to prevent further attacks and ensure the safe return of those abducted.
Kwara State Police command is yet to issue an official statement in respect to the development.
