Baptist College of Theology holds 55th convocation May 31st

The renowned theological institute, Baptist College of Theology based in Obinze Owerri will hold its 55th convocation ceremony on Saturday 31st May 2025.
The college has officially announced its programme of activities through the Rector, Professor Ishaya Chuga.
The President of the Nigeria Baptist Convention Rev Dr Israel Akanji will officially commission the ultra modern 5000-seater auditorium built by Dr Mrs Seinye Lulu-Briggs which will be named after her.

He states: “The Rector, Prof Ishaya Chuga, on behalf of the Chairman of the Governing Board, Dr Dawari George, has formally announced the programme of activities lined up for the 55th Convocation Ceremony of the college scheduled to take place on Saturday, 31st May 2025 by 10am.
“As part of the convocation activities, The President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention and Visitor to the college, Rev Dr Israel Akanji will commission the newly completed 5,000-seater ultra-modern College Auditorium, graciously donated and built by Dr. (Mrs.) Seinye Lulu-Briggs.
“This significant facility will be officially named in her honour.
“Dr. (Mrs.) Seinye Lulu-Briggs will present the 55th Convocation lecture on the topic:
Faith, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation: The Role of Theological Education for Enterprise Development in an Emerging Economy.
“The General Secretary of the Baptist World Alliance Dr Elijah Brown will be among other distinguished fellowship awardees and he will bring his remarks virtually to the congregation as a recipient and as Global Leader of Baptists worldwide.
“The ceremony will be attended by other Baptist leaders, including Rev Elias Apetogbo, General Secretary of the All Africa Baptist Fellowship, Executive Committee members of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Members of the Governing Board, Baptist clergy, Government officials, captains of industry, the traditional institution in Obinze/Owerri, Alumni of the institution, family and friends of the College and the graduating students.
“The highpoint of the Convocation will be the award of Degrees, Diplomas and over 20 special endowment prizes to graduating students who have excelled in different courses.
“The Ceremony will be rounded up with a post convocation Lunch and networking session by fellowship awardees and friends of the College,” the statement read.

HISTORY
Founded in 1960 by Russell and Veda Locke, missionaries of the Southern Baptist Convention, the college began as the Baptist Pastors School in Owerri. It has since grown and evolved, changing its name to Baptist College of Theology in 1999.
