ASABA, Nigeria — Former Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, has been appointed as the new Commander of Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron 31, Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, following a recent posting by the Inspector-General of Police.
The police high command confirmed the appointment, describing it as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security operations and enhance the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force in tackling crime across the country.
Hundeyin, who previously served as the Police Public Relations Officer at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, was appointed to the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Alagbon, Lagos, in July 2024. He also served as the Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police Command, where he managed public communications and media relations. His new role as Squadron Commander places him at the forefront of security operations in Delta State, where he will lead a unit responsible for responding to emergencies, conducting raids, and providing security for critical infrastructure and government institutions.
The Police Mobile Force serves as the tactical and rapid-response arm of the Nigeria Police Force, playing a critical role in quelling civil unrest, combating terrorism, and carrying out special operations. Units such as the Mobile Force are often deployed to high-risk areas to supplement regular police duties in response to rising insecurity.
The squadron has a storied history as one of the key units in the Nigeria Police Force’s efforts to tackle crimes such as kidnapping, banditry, and communal clashes. Hundeyin’s posting to Delta State is expected to bolster the command’s operational capacity, particularly in combating the rising incidence of kidnapping and violent crimes in the state.
His appointment comes amid an ongoing reorganisation of the Nigeria Police Force, with several senior officers recently redeployed to strengthen internal security and public safety operations nationwide. The police have reassured the public of their commitment to protecting lives and property and to ensuring that the new appointments enhance the overall effectiveness of the force in discharging its duties.
