The Ekiti state government says one of the state assembly lawmakers in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) has died.

Lanre Ogunsuyi, commissioner for information, youth, sports and culture, made the disclosure at a news conference in Ado Ekiti on Thursday.

“Information reaching us indicates that one of the abducted members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Honourable Afolabi Akanni, has died in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS),” he said.

“Significantly, since his illegal detention, he has been held incommunicado without access to his family members, doctors and lawyers.

2027: CARDINAL ONAIYEKAN DRAGS SOLUDO, TINUBU, INEC OVER FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS Catholic Cardinal John Onaiyekan has raised concerns over the state of Nigeria’s political space ahead of the 2027 general elections, speaking on the need for elections to be conducted freely, fairly and transparently. “IS THIS REALLY MBAISE?” — EX-NNAMDI KANU LAWYER-TURNED-POLITICIAN WALKS THROUGH ‘FOREST’ COMMUNITY Former lawyer to Nnamdi Kanu and NDC candidate for the House of Representatives, Chief Barr. Maxwell C. Opara, has shared a striking video from his campaign tour of Onicha-Nwafor Community in Ezinihitte Mbaise, Imo State. In a Facebook post on Friday, September 25, 2026, Opara said his “heart bled” after witnessing what he described as the harsh living conditions in the community. The video shows the NDC House of Representatives candidate walking through a thick, overgrown area, accompanied by other men, with a vehicle following behind.
