The Federal Government has initiated moves to extradite former Bayelsa State Governor and ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, over his alleged role in financing a coup plot against President Bola Tinubu.
Sylva, who is listed as the seventh defendant in the suit, is said to be on the run and is being tried in absentia.
According to security sources, the federal government has enlisted the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) to track and extradite chief Timipre Sylva.
The move, Diaspora Digital Media understand, is aimed at ensuring that the Niger Delta born politician returns to Nigeria to face prosecution.
Meanwhile, this comes as the Federal Government is set to arraign six other defendants before the Federal High Court in Abuja over the alleged coup plot.
The suit was filed on behalf of the Federal Government by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.
Those to be arraigned include retired Major General Mohammed Ibrahim Gana, retired Naval Captain Erasmus Ochegobia Victor, Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim, Zekeri Umoru, Bukar Kashim Goni, and Abdulkadir Sani.
The defendants are expected to appear before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja as proceedings commence.
