Tacha Slams Nigerians Over Backlash Against Tunde Onakoya

Reality TV personality Tacha has stirred conversation online after reacting to criticism directed at chess advocate Tunde Onakoya.

Her comments followed mixed reactions to Onakoya’s recent post on X (formerly Twitter), where he shared a video of himself playing chess in traditional attire outside the Louvre Museum in Paris.

In the post, Onakoya described the moment as symbolic, calling himself the first Nigerian to play chess at the Louvre and highlighting it as a cultural milestone. While many users praised the display of Nigerian culture on a global stage, others challenged the claim, noting that the location shown is a public space outside the museum rather than inside it, and that there is no official documentation confirming such a “first.”

Reacting to the backlash, Tacha argued that Nigerians often show more discrimination toward one another than they acknowledge.

She stated that although racism exists globally, the level of criticism and division seen among Nigerians online can be just as intense, if not worse. According to her, people are often quick to tear others down, especially when they achieve visible success.

Tacha also commended Onakoya for how he handled the situation, pointing out that he has previously faced heavy criticism online, which at one point pushed him away from social media.

She noted that his decision to stand his ground this time reflects growth and resilience.

The debate has since sparked broader conversations about online behavior, accountability, and how achievements are perceived and challenged in digital spaces, particularly among Nigerian users.
