Court Orders Police to Evacuate Bayero from Kano Emir Palace
A Kano State High Court has ordered the Commissioner of Police in Kano to immediately evacuate Aminu Bayero from the Nasarawa palace, where he is currently residing.
The court, presided over by Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu, issued an interim injunction on May 27, 2024, restraining Bayero and four other dethroned emirs from parading themselves as emirs pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed by the applicants.
The order reads, in part: “An order of interim injunction is hereby granted restraining the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Defendants from parading themselves as Emirs of Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano, and Karaye pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed by the applicants.”
The court also ordered the Commissioner of Police to take over the palace of the Emir of Kano and evict Bayero pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice. The order is aimed at maintaining peace in Kano.
Justice Aliyu fixed June 11, 2024, for the hearing of the motion on notice.
