COWA Expands Tree Planting Drive To Owerri To Promote Climate Awareness

OWERRI, IMO STATE, NIGERIA — The Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) has extended its tree-planting campaign to Owerri, Imo State, as part of efforts to raise awareness on climate change, global warming, and environmental sustainability.

The campaign was organised to educate students and young people on the importance of environmental protection and responsible ecological practices.

Officials of the association said the initiative is aimed at encouraging communities to adopt greener lifestyles and contribute to environmental conservation through tree planting.

The programme brought together students from selected schools in Owerri, where participants were taught the benefits of trees in reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality.

COWA representatives emphasised that climate change poses increasing risks to communities, making environmental education essential at all levels of society.
