EDITORIAL: 8th national grid collapse in 2024: Which way Nigeria?

Published

on

The national grid collapse is a recurring nightmare for Nigeria, and it’s unacceptable that it’s happened for the eighth time this year.

The latest collapse has left millions in darkness, with all 22 generation companies down.

This isn’t just an inconvenience; it’s a crippling blow to businesses, households, and the economy as a whole.

The Minister of Power has attributed the collapse to the deplorable state of the country’s power infrastructure.

It’s shocking that despite the government’s promises, the power sector remains in shambles.

Diaspora Digital Media stresses that the incessant grid collapse and lack of adequate power supply in the 21st century is an indication that Nigeria is not prepared for techno-economic development.

The consequences of this grid collapse are far-reaching. The economy suffers from instability, businesses struggle with increased costs of production, and productivity decreases.

The reliance on generators poses health risks due to air and noise pollution. This situation is unsustainable and demands immediate attention.

It’s time for the president and vice president to take decisive action. Rather than embarking on incessant foreign trips, they should focus on addressing the power sector’s challenges.

The government must invest in upgrading the power infrastructure, promote decentralization by encouraging regional and state grids, and support renewable energy sources to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Nigeria deserves better. The government’s inaction has led to widespread frustration and disillusionment.

The president and vice president must sit tight and work towards providing a stable electricity supply for citizens.

This is not a partisan issue but a national emergency requiring swift and effective solutions.

The nation cannot continue to suffer due to the government’s inability to address its basic needs.

We urge the administration to prioritize the power sector and work towards a sustainable solution. Nigeria’s future depends on it.
