The Labour Party has made some decisions by the party’s leadership regarding the procedures for conducting Congress and Primary elections for candidates running for Edo State governor. The meeting was chaired by Barrister Julius Abure on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Among them are:

1. The NWC authorized the distribution of forms to all state residents and Nigerian candidates who express interest in running for office.

2. The National Working Committee (NWC) approved that the Expression of Interest Fee would be N5,000.000.00, and the Nomination Form would be N25,000.000.00.

3. Between January 25 and February 11, 2023, is when NWC approved the start of the sale and the submission of Expressions of Interest and Nomination Forms. Female candidates were excused from paying for the Expression of Interest form alone.

4. The NWC endorsed an indirect primary election in which the flag bearer will be chosen by ward and local government congresses.

5. The NWC also approved the following dates: February 14 for the aspirant screening; February 22 for the primary election; and February 23 for the adjudication of any disputes or appeals resulting from the primaries.

6. The NWC expressed gratitude to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for fulfilling its verification obligation earlier in the day and for praising the party’s leadership for adhering to INEC’s guidelines.

7. The NWC gave Barrister Julius Abure, its National Chairman, a vote of confidence for successfully guiding the party’s operations and providing it with a clear direction. It highlighted the historic victory the party had in the most recent general election, taking home 34 House of Representatives seats, one governorship, seven Senate seats, and countless state House of Assembly seats. It expressed sadness that the number had decreased after losing a few seats in court and expressed optimism that further seats will be gained in the upcoming days through repeat elections.
