EFCC Mourns Former Chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced with shock and sadness the sudden death of its former Executive Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde. Lamorde, who served as the pioneer Director of Operations and third substantive Chairman of the EFCC between February 15, 2012, and November 9, 2015, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024, in Egypt where he had gone for medical treatment.
During his tenure as EFCC Chairman, Lamorde played a significant role in several high-profile cases, including Nigeria’s successful case against Process & Industrial Development (P&ID). His contributions to the nation’s anti-graft efforts were widely recognized, and he was praised for his focused and gallant approach to fighting corruption.
Reacting to his death, the EFCC described Lamorde as a “focused and gallant anti-graft fighter” who would be sorely missed by the Commission and the nation at large. “The Commission prays for the repose of his soul and comfort for his family, the EFCC, and the entire nation,” the statement read.
Former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, also mourned Lamorde’s death, praising his contributions to the nation. “Ibrahim Lamorde was a dedicated and patriotic Nigerian who served his country with distinction. His work at the EFCC helped to strengthen Nigeria’s anti-graft efforts, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations,” Mohammed said.
Lamorde’s death has sent shockwaves across the nation, with many Nigerians taking to social media to pay tribute to his memory and celebrate his life and achievements. He will be remembered as a champion of anti-corruption efforts in Nigeria and a dedicated public servant who gave his all to the nation.
