Enugu community, herdsmen constitute task force to address insecurity

The people of Eha-Amufu community, Isiuzo Local Government of Enugu State and members of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) have set up a joint task force to provide security.

This followed lingering deadly attacks and kidnappings of residents of the community in recent time, which led to suspicion between members of the host community and the herders.

A committee with members from both sides has been inaugurated and mandated to reconcile the two groups and work out a sustainable solution to insecurity.

The Chairman, Eha-Amufu and Fulani Communities Peace and Reconciliation Committee, Mr. Tony Edeh, made this known in Enugu at the weekend after a meeting between the groups.

He said the groups agreed to set aside their differences and live together in peace.

The committee chairman said the groups had found a solution to the problems.

He said the committee also agreed on a number of things on how to forestall such incident that led to the mistrust between the pastoralists and their host community.

“We have agreed on a number of things on how to move forward and make sure the conflict is resolved. It is better to follow peace and we have agreed that we will continue with peace.

“In no distant time, we will start the implementation of those necessary steps in order to continue to live together peacefully,” Edeh said.

The Anglican Bishop of Eha-Amufu Diocese, Bishop Daniel Odinga and a representative of the Fulani community and Southeast Zonal Chairman, MACBAN, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, described the peace and reconciliation deal as a good one.
