First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has reaffirmed its commitment to driving meaningful social development by providing a N15 million grant to the Centre for Integrated Health Programs (CIHP), a non-governmental organisation dedicated to empowering vulnerable girls through education, vocational training, mental health support and life skills development. The financial intervention is expected to provide critical relief for the organisation, which has been grappling with funding challenges while striving to sustain programmes that have transformed the lives of hundreds of disadvantaged young women across Nigeria.

The grant was officially presented by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FCMB, Yemisi Edun, during a ceremony where she emphasized the bank’s unwavering commitment to supporting initiatives that create lasting positive change within communities. According to her, organisations that devote themselves to improving the lives of vulnerable people deserve encouragement and strategic partnerships rather than being forced to suspend operations because of financial constraints.

Edun noted that FCMB considers corporate social responsibility an integral part of its mission and continuously seeks opportunities to invest in programmes that directly improve the well-being of Nigerians. She explained that the bank deliberately identifies areas of social vulnerability and channels resources toward organisations that have demonstrated measurable impact in addressing those challenges.

She stressed that the N15 million support is a grant rather than a loan, underscoring the bank’s desire to ensure that the Centre for Integrated Health Programs can continue its vital work without the burden of repayment or additional financial pressure.

According to her, the remarkable work being carried out by CIHP in transforming the lives of vulnerable girls inspired FCMB to step in at a critical moment when the organisation required urgent support to sustain its operations.

She stated that the organisation’s efforts extend beyond providing education and vocational skills, as it also restores hope, confidence and dignity to young girls who have experienced various forms of hardship and social vulnerability.

Edun explained that institutions like CIHP serve an essential role in national development because they empower young women to rebuild their lives and become productive members of society. She therefore maintained that such organisations deserve consistent backing from both public and private institutions.

She emphasized that no funding shortage should be allowed to halt programmes that have demonstrated such profound social impact.

According to her, the bank believes every vulnerable girl deserves an opportunity to overcome adversity, acquire practical skills and regain confidence to pursue a brighter future.

She expressed optimism that the grant would serve as more than just financial assistance, describing it as a catalyst that would strengthen the organisation’s capacity to continue changing lives and expanding its reach.

Edun also encouraged CIHP to remain steadfast in its mission, assuring the organisation that its work aligns with FCMB’s broader vision of creating sustainable social value through purposeful investments that directly benefit communities.

She noted that the bank takes pride in supporting initiatives capable of producing long-term positive outcomes rather than short-term interventions.

The FCMB Managing Director further described the grant as part of the institution’s broader effort to make purposeful contributions that improve lives and strengthen communities across Nigeria.

She observed that every success story emerging from the organisation represents another life redirected toward hope, independence and productivity, making the investment worthwhile.

DDM News reports that the Centre for Integrated Health Programs has built a reputation for supporting vulnerable girls through a comprehensive rehabilitation model that combines education, vocational training, psychological support and personal development programmes designed to prepare beneficiaries for successful reintegration into society.

Responding to the donation, the Chief Executive Officer of CIHP, Dr. Bolanle Oyeledun, expressed deep appreciation to FCMB for the timely intervention, describing the grant as a major relief after months of financial uncertainty that threatened the continuity of several programmes.

She disclosed that sustaining the organisation had become increasingly difficult due to funding constraints, forcing members of staff to make personal sacrifices in order to keep the organisation functioning.

According to Oyeledun, employees voluntarily contributed portions of their salaries to ensure that essential activities continued despite dwindling financial resources.

She explained that while the organisation remained committed to its mission, maintaining operational stability had become an enormous challenge without external support.

Despite those obstacles, she noted that CIHP continued working tirelessly to provide opportunities for vulnerable girls, refusing to abandon the young people who depend on its services.

Oyeledun highlighted some of the organisation’s recent achievements, revealing that CIHP has now secured accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), enabling it to issue nationally recognised certificates to participants who complete its training programmes.

She added that the organisation has also obtained accreditation under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) framework, further strengthening its ability to equip beneficiaries with practical skills that improve their employability and economic independence.

According to her, these certifications represent significant milestones because they ensure that the girls graduating from the programmes receive qualifications that are recognised within Nigeria’s educational and vocational sectors.

She explained that beyond technical training, CIHP places enormous emphasis on addressing the psychological wounds many of the girls carry after experiencing abuse, neglect, exploitation or other traumatic circumstances.

Many beneficiaries, she said, arrive at the organisation with deeply affected mental health, low self-esteem and diminished confidence resulting from difficult life experiences.

As part of its holistic rehabilitation approach, the organisation provides mental health support, counselling and emotional healing to help participants regain confidence and rebuild their sense of self-worth.

Oyeledun explained that the goal is not simply to teach vocational skills but to prepare young women to return to society emotionally stronger, better informed and capable of making sound life decisions.

She added that the girls are also educated on personal safety, self-protection and how to identify and access support systems whenever they encounter challenges in the future.

According to her, equipping beneficiaries with knowledge, confidence and practical skills significantly reduces their vulnerability while improving their chances of becoming financially independent and socially empowered.

She expressed optimism that the support received from FCMB would allow the organisation to strengthen existing programmes, expand training opportunities and continue reaching more vulnerable girls whose lives depend on such interventions.

DDM News understands that partnerships between financial institutions and non-governmental organisations are becoming increasingly important in addressing Nigeria’s social and developmental challenges. As economic pressures continue to affect charitable organisations, collaborations like the one between FCMB and the Centre for Integrated Health Programs demonstrate how corporate organisations can complement public efforts by investing in initiatives that empower vulnerable citizens, strengthen communities and create lasting opportunities for sustainable development.
