Finally: Ned Nwoko resigns from PDP and joins APC amidst growing divisions
DDM News
After months of rumors and speculation, Senator Ned Nwoko, the representative of Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Nwoko’s decision comes as a result of the deep divisions and factionalism within the PDP, which he believes have become irreconcilable, making it difficult for the party to move forward and effectively serve the interests of the people.
In his resignation letter, addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Ward 8, Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State, Diaspora digital media (DDM) reports.
Nwoko expressed his gratitude for the opportunities he had in the PDP but stated that the current situation within the party had made it impossible for him to remain.
He has been a member of the PDP since its formation in 1999 and has held various positions within the party. Despite his loyalty and years of service, the ongoing internal conflicts have forced him to reassess his position.
Ned Nwoko detailed that the rising factions within the PDP had caused chaos and disruption at multiple levels.
According to Nwoko, these factions have not only hindered progress within the party but also undermined the unity needed to effectively advocate for the people of Delta North.
One of the events that led to his decision was a violent altercation that occurred among top party functionaries on January 29th, where members of the PDP physically fought each other due to their irreconcilable differences.
This incident was a turning point for Nwoko, who realized that such behavior was incompatible with his goals of promoting peace and progress in the region.
In his resignation letter, Nwoko emphasized that he had made important promises to the people of Delta North during his 2022/2023 senatorial campaign.
These promises, he noted, were not just political rhetoric but commitments he intended to fulfill in order to improve the lives of his constituents.
However, he expressed his concern that the internal turmoil within the PDP had made it increasingly difficult for him to follow through on these promises.
Nwoko stated that the party’s structure at the state level had become a major barrier to progress, and his continued association with the PDP would only hinder his ability to deliver on his promises.
Despite his departure from the PDP, Ned Nwoko reassured his constituents and the party members that he remains steadfast in his commitment to the people of Delta North.
He emphasized that his decision to leave the party was not a reflection of his abandonment of the people he served but rather a necessary step to ensure that he could continue working for the betterment of the region.
He also acknowledged the contributions of his supporters and thanked them for their unwavering loyalty and trust.
Nwoko’s shift to the APC is seen as a strategic move aimed at positioning himself in a party that he believes will allow him to achieve his political goals without the constraints imposed by PDP’s internal conflicts.
In his letter, Nwoko confirmed his allegiance to the APC and expressed his hope that this new political affiliation would provide him with the platform to work more effectively for the development of Delta North and the broader Delta State.
He reiterated that his decision was grounded in the best interests of the people he represents and the state as a whole.
In conclusion, Ned Nwoko’s resignation from the PDP and his defection to the APC mark a significant shift in the political landscape of Delta North.
Nwoko’s decision has been met with mixed reactions, with some viewing it as a necessary move to ensure better governance, while others see it as a sign of deeper fragmentation within the PDP.
Regardless, Nwoko has made it clear that his focus remains on the progress and prosperity of the people he represents, and he intends to continue advocating for their welfare, regardless of party affiliation.
