Bauchi Deputy Governor denies slapping Minister for Foreign Affairs

Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Muhammad Auwal Jatau, has denied allegations that he slapped Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar.
The reported incident allegedly took place inside a Coaster bus on Saturday, April 19, 2025, in Bauchi State.
The bus was transporting dignitaries from Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport to the Emir’s Palace.
They were attending the turbaning ceremony of former Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abubakar.
According to reports, Tuggar allegedly made derogatory remarks about Governor Bala Mohammed.
The reports claimed Jatau reacted angrily and slapped Tuggar in front of several high-ranking officials.
Vice President Kashim Shettima was reportedly among those present during the alleged confrontation.
The rumour quickly spread across social media, sparking reactions and debate among Nigerians.
However, Jatau’s media aide, Muslim Lawal, denied the report in a statement to journalists.
He described the story as false, misleading, and aimed at causing political tension in the state.
“No, no, no, how can the Deputy Governor slap the Minister?” Lawal asked rhetorically.
He said his principal is a responsible leader who cannot engage in such misconduct.
Lawal also questioned the credibility of the source behind the rumour.
He urged the public to disregard the report and avoid spreading unverified information.
“We believe this is politically motivated and designed to damage the Deputy Governor’s image,” he added.
As of the time of reporting, Minister Tuggar has not released any official statement.
Vice President Shettima has also remained silent on the matter.
Security officials at the event have not confirmed or denied the alleged incident.
Political analysts say the rumour could deepen existing tensions between state and federal actors.
Bauchi state government have called for calm and urged leaders to promote unity during sensitive political ceremonies.
