FRSC: Twelve dead, several injured in Niger state highway collision

A tragic road accident on the Agaie-Lapai Highway in Niger State claimed twelve lives and left several others injured.

The collision involved a truck and a passenger bus, as confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Kumar Tsukwam, during a press briefing in Minna on Saturday.

Commander Tsukwam stated that FRSC personnel remained on-site to gather detailed information about the incident.

He assured the public of a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the crash, promising updates as soon as they became available.

Eyewitnesses reported that the accident occurred at Jippo Village, near Mashina Community, when a bus traveling from Minna to Katcha collided head-on with a trailer.

Witnesses reported that the trailer driver was attempting to overtake another vehicle when the collision occurred.

Tragically, three of the deceased were women from the same family, according to local sources.

Three other passengers, including two women and the bus driver, sustained varying injuries and are now receiving treatment at Lapai General Hospital.

Their conditions remain under close medical supervision as they recover.

Speaking from his hospital bed, the injured bus driver, Mohammed Baba, explained that the trailer’s overtaking maneuver directly caused the crash.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased victims.

The FRSC reaffirmed its dedication to improving road safety and urged drivers to exercise caution.

The agency also stressed the importance of adhering strictly to traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies.

This incident underscores persistent road safety concerns along Niger State’s major highway.
