Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has again written to the State House of Assembly regarding the 2025 budget.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that the letter, dated March 13, 2025, was addressed to Speaker Martin Amaewhule, proposing a new date for the presentation.

Governor Fubara suggested Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. for the budget re-presentation before the lawmakers at the Assembly.

However, he also expressed flexibility, stating that the lawmakers could choose any other convenient date within March 2025.

This development follows a recent Supreme Court ruling that emphasized adherence to constitutional and legal provisions by all arms of government.

The court’s judgment directed that government institutions must perform their duties within the boundaries of the law and the Constitution.

Governor Fubara stated that his decision was in compliance with this directive from the apex court of the country.

He stressed the importance of resolving political conflicts and prioritizing the progress of Rivers State above all disagreements.

“No matter our differences, the interests of Rivers State and our people should come first,” Governor Fubara stated in his letter.

He had previously attempted to present the budget at the Assembly Quarters in Port Harcourt but was denied access to the venue.

Despite the obstruction, the governor remains determined to ensure the budget is properly presented and approved for the state’s development.

The budget has been a contentious issue due to the political struggle between Governor Fubara and pro-Wike lawmakers in Rivers State.

Lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike have continued to challenge Fubara’s administration on various governance matters, including the budget presentation.

Governor Fubara’s letter emphasized his commitment to working within the law to break the ongoing political deadlock in the state.

He urged lawmakers to set aside political differences and focus on the welfare and progress of the people of Rivers State.

His request for a new date indicates an effort to ensure the budget presentation proceeds without further conflicts or obstructions.

Fubara reassured lawmakers of his dedication to maintaining cooperation among all arms of government for the greater good of the state.

He concluded his letter by thanking Speaker Amaewhule and the Assembly members for considering his request.

He also expressed optimism that the lawmakers would respond positively and allow the budget presentation to move forward.

This latest move by Governor Fubara is seen as a step toward resolving the lingering crisis in Rivers State governance.
