A fuel tanker explosion occurred near the Old Toll Gate in Mojoda Community, located within the Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State, causing significant disruptions along the Epe-Ijebu Ode Expressway.

The explosion, which took place around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, prompted panic as the fuel tanker burst into flames. Reports indicate that at least two individuals, including the tanker driver, narrowly escaped before the incident escalated.

According to emergency responders, the tanker had been transporting fuel out of Lagos when the explosion occurred.

The blast caused traffic to back up significantly, with motorists being forced to seek alternative routes. This led to severe congestion on the expressway, affecting commuters traveling in both directions.

As the situation developed, authorities and emergency personnel quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation and control the fuel fire.

Margaret Adeseye, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed the explosion and provided reassurances to the public.

She stated that the fire was being actively contained and that there were no additional casualties beyond the driver, who had already escaped the fuel tanker before the explosion.

Adeseye emphasized that emergency responders were working diligently to prevent further damage and bring the fuel fire under control.

In her statement, Adeseye noted, “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently battling a fuel tanker inferno on the Epe-Ijebu Ode Expressway, near the Old Toll Gate, Mojoda, Epe, Lagos State.”

She continued by stressing that no one else in the immediate vicinity was harmed, as efforts to manage the blaze remained in full swing.
