Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has appointed Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello as the new Emir of Gusau.
This follows the death of his father, His Royal Highness Ibrahim Bello, who passed away on July 25, 2025. The late Emir led the Gusau Emirate for ten years.
The Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, on Tuesday, July 29, confirmed the appointment.
He said the decision followed the traditional recommendation of the Gusau Emirate kingmakers.
The process complied with the customs and legal requirements of the state.
Alhaji Abdulkadir is the eldest son of the late monarch. Before now, he held the traditional title of Bunun Gusau.
His experience and position in the royal lineage made him the natural choice for the throne.
Governor Lawal congratulated the new Emir and urged him to lead with honour and integrity.
He reminded him of his heritage as a descendant of Malam Sambo Dan Ashafa, a revered Islamic scholar and founding father in the region.
The Governor advised the Emir to focus on unity, peace, and progress.
He called on him to support development and foster peaceful coexistence across the emirate.
Governor Lawal also asked the people of Gusau to support their new traditional ruler.
Community members have welcomed the appointment with optimism.
Many believe that Alhaji Abdulkadir will bring youthful leadership and stability to the emirate.
Traditional leaders across Zamfara have also sent congratulatory messages.
The Gusau Emirate plays a vital role in preserving culture and supporting state development. The new Emir is expected to bridge generational gaps and promote harmony.
He now faces the task of uniting diverse communities and upholding the values of the emirate.
His official coronation date will be announced soon. Until then, public celebrations and visits to the palace continue in honour of the new Emir
