A team of security operatives in Kogi State has successfully rescued three pastors and 13 other victims in Kidnappers custod who were kidnapped by armed criminals in Ofu Local Government Area.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that the operation, carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, brought an end to the terrifying ordeal of the abductees.

The victims, including the three pastors who were guest ministers at a crusade in Ejule, were kidnapped on Monday, January 20, 2025, after the second day of the three-day religious program.

The incident occurred at approximately 11 p.m. as the victims were returning to their guest house via a street along the Ejule-Anyigba road.

The kidnappers ambushed their vehicle and took them into a nearby forest.

Upon receiving a distress alert, security operatives immediately swung into action.

Working in coordination with the Nigerian Army, the team launched a two-night search and rescue operation.

The operation led them into a dense forest, where they encountered the kidnappers.

What followed was a fierce two-hour gun battle between the security team and the armed assailants.

Unable to withstand the intense gunfire, the kidnappers fled the scene, leaving the hostages unharmed.

The rescued victims included the pastors and other individuals who had attended the religious event.

The bravery and swift response of the security forces ensured their safety.

The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Joel Salifu, praised the operatives for their dedication and professionalism during the rescue mission.

In a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Emmanuel Unubi, the Deputy Governor expressed relief and gratitude for the successful operation.

“Under Governor Ahmed Ododo’s leadership, we will continue to prioritize the safety and security of lives and property.”

The Deputy Governor highlighted the proactive measures that have been put in place to combat crime across the state.

He called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information that could help in the fight against kidnappers and other criminals.

This latest incident underscores the ongoing challenges posed by kidnappers in various parts of the country.

However, the swift response of the security team in Kogi State serves as a reminder of the importance of well-coordinated efforts in tackling insecurity.

The state government’s zero-tolerance approach to crime has been instrumental in curbing the activities of kidnappers and other criminal elements.

As the rescued victims recover from their ordeal, the government reassures citizens of its commitment to fostering a safe and secure environment.

The Deputy Governor urged communities to work together with law enforcement agencies to ensure that kidnappers and other criminals have no hiding place in Kogi State.

This successful rescue mission is a testament to the state’s resolve to protect its people and rid the region of criminal activities.

The fight against kidnappers remains a top priority for the administration.
