Gunmen kidnap Catholic priest in Enugu

Gunmen have abducted Father Gerald Ohaeri, a Catholic priest, in Enugu State, located in Nigeria’s South-East region.

According to media reports, the Catholic priest was kidnapped on Saturday, 30 November, 2024 along Ugwogo Nike-Opi Express Road in Nsukka Local Government Area of the State.

Father Ohaeri was reportedly returning from a function in the State capital when he was kidnapped by the gunmen.

His abduction was confirmed in a statement by Mr Vitalis Anusionwu, secretary of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit Province of Nigeria.

Anusionwu, who is also a Catholic priest, expressed concern over the rising insecurity in the region and urged authorities to act immediately to secure the priest’s release.

“We solicit your fervent prayers and supplications to God that he may be released as soon as possible and come back to us safe and sound,” he said.

Enugu State police command is yet to issue a statement in respect to the development.
