Iran Says Progress Made in US Talks But Agreement Not Close

Iran says important conclusions have been reached in discussions with the United States over a possible memorandum of understanding, but officials insist no final agreement is close.

Speaking on Monday, Esmaeil Baghaei said negotiators had made progress on several issues during ongoing talks with Washington.

However, he warned that this should not be interpreted as a sign that a deal is imminent.

“Conclusions have been reached on many topics,” Baghaei said, adding that Tehran is currently focused on negotiating an end to the war rather than discussing its nuclear programme.

The spokesperson also criticised what he described as inconsistent positions from US officials, saying changing American demands continue to complicate efforts to reach an agreement.

The latest comments come amid growing international speculation that Tehran and Washington could soon announce a temporary framework deal aimed at easing tensions in the Middle East.

Earlier, Marco Rubio said the United States would pursue “another way” if diplomacy with Iran fails, while Donald Trump recently claimed a potential agreement had been “largely negotiated”.

Despite those optimistic signals from Washington, Iranian officials continue to stress that several major disagreements remain unresolved.

Among the key sticking points are the future of Iran’s nuclear activities, sanctions relief, the release of frozen Iranian assets, and control of the Strait of Hormuz.

The strategic waterway remains central to negotiations because it carries a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments.

Iran has repeatedly denied accusations from the US and Israel that it is seeking nuclear weapons, insisting its nuclear programme is intended solely for peaceful civilian purposes.
