The Israeli military has launched coordinated overnight airstrikes on key airports in Tehran, targeting Iranian aircraft and military infrastructure.
According to military officials, dozens of fighter jets hit three major facilities Mehrabad Airport, Bahram Airport, and Azmayesh Airport in a move aimed at crippling Iran’s air capabilities.
The strikes form part of a broader campaign to weaken both the Iranian Air Force and the air arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, particularly its elite Quds Force, which Israel accuses of using the airports to transport weapons and funds to allied groups across the region.
In a significant escalation, the strikes reportedly killed Major General Majid Khademi, the intelligence head of the Revolutionary Guards.
Khademi, who had been sanctioned earlier this year by the United States Treasury over his role in suppressing anti-government protests, was among several top Iranian officials eliminated since the war intensified.
He rose to the position after his predecessor, Mohammad Kazemi, was killed in an earlier phase of the conflict.
Mounting losses for Iran’s military elite
Since hostilities escalated, multiple high-ranking figures within the Revolutionary Guards have been killed, including former commander Mohammad Pakpour.
Despite the losses, Iranian authorities insist the Islamic Republic remains resilient, swiftly replacing fallen leaders and sustaining its military operations against Israel and its allies.
The strikes highlight a deepening conflict between Israel and Iran, with targeted assassinations and strategic air raids becoming central tactics.
The continued targeting of senior officials signals an effort to destabilise Iran’s military command structure while limiting its regional influence.
