Italian newspaper publishes world’s first AI-generated edition

Il Foglio, a conservative liberal daily, has made history by publishing the world’s first newspaper edition entirely produced by artificial intelligence.

This innovative experiment is part of a month-long project aimed at exploring the impact of AI technology on journalism.

The four-page Il Foglio AI edition is wrapped into the newspaper’s broadsheet format and is available on newsstands and online.

According to Claudio Cerasa, the newspaper’s editor, “It will be the first daily newspaper in the world on newsstands created entirely using artificial intelligence.”

The AI technology was used for everything, including writing, headlines, quotes, and even irony.

Journalists’ roles were limited to asking questions and reading the answers generated by the AI tool.

The experiment comes as news organizations worldwide grapple with the deployment of AI technology.

The Il Foglio AI edition features a range of articles, including a front-page story about US President Donald Trump and an analysis of Vladimir Putin’s “10 betrayals.”

The articles are structured, straightforward, and clear, with no obvious grammatical errors.

However, none of the articles directly quote human sources.

The final page includes AI-generated letters from readers to the editor, with one asking whether AI will render humans “useless” in the future.

The AI-generated response acknowledges the concern but notes that AI still has limitations, such as ordering coffee correctly.

Cerasa emphasized that Il Foglio AI reflects “a real newspaper” and is a testing ground to demonstrate the practical application of AI technology in journalism.

The experiment aims to explore the impact of AI on the production of a daily newspaper and the questions it raises about the future of journalism.

AI to replace doctors, teachers within 10 years -Bill Gates

Microsoft co-founder and billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates predicts that artificial intelligence (AI) will render humans unnecessary for “most things” within the next decade.

In a recent interview on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Gates explained that while specialized human expertise—such as top-tier doctors and teachers—is currently rare, AI will soon make high-quality services widely accessible.

“With AI, over the next decade, that will become free, commonplace—great medical advice, great tutoring,” Gates said.

Gates expanded on this idea in a conversation with Harvard professor Arthur Brooks, describing the coming age as one of “free intelligence.”

AI advancements will rapidly transform industries, from healthcare (improving diagnoses and treatments) to education (providing AI tutors) and beyond.

“It’s very profound and even a little bit scary—because it’s happening very quickly, and there is no upper bound,” Gates told Brooks.

While some experts believe AI will augment human work rather than replace it, others warn of major disruptions.

Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of Microsoft AI, argues in his book The Coming Wave that AI will eventually replace labor, leading to economic instability.

Gates acknowledges concerns but remains optimistic, citing potential breakthroughs in medicine, climate solutions, and education.

“There will be some things we reserve for ourselves. But in terms of making things, moving things, and growing food, over time those will be basically solved problems,” Gates told Fallon.

Gates has foreseen AI’s rise for years. In 2017, he highlighted AI’s potential, citing Google DeepMind’s victory in the board game Go as a key milestone.

By 2023, he was stunned by OpenAI’s rapid progress—when the company developed an AI that could ace an AP Biology exam in months, far sooner than his predicted two-to-three-year timeline.

Despite risks, Gates sees massive opportunities in AI entrepreneurship. He told CNBC Make It in 2024 that if he started a new business today, it would be AI-centric.

“Today, somebody could raise billions of dollars for a new AI company [with] just a few sketch ideas,” he said, urging young innovators to seize the moment.

While AI’s rapid evolution brings valid concerns—such as misinformation and job displacement—Gates believes the benefits will outweigh the challenges.

For aspiring entrepreneurs, he sees this as a fantastic opportunity to shape the future.
