(DDM) – Former Senate President David Mark has formally taken over the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling the beginning of a new era for the political party.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the official handover occurred during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, where Mark was inaugurated as the new National Chairman of the ADC.

This transition brings an end to the tenure of the party’s founding National Chairman, Chief Ralphs Okey Nwosu, who has led the ADC since its inception.

The NEC meeting, which was described as pivotal, also approved significant internal restructuring aimed at strengthening the party’s foundations and preparing it for future electoral challenges.

As part of the resolutions reached during the meeting, the NEC dissolved the existing National Working Committee (NWC) and mandated the formation of a caretaker committee to oversee the party’s affairs until its next national convention.

The appointment of David Mark has been widely described as a strategic decision meant to rebrand the party and expand its influence across Nigeria.

Mark, a former military administrator, senator, and two-time Senate President, is expected to use his political experience to reposition the party and attract new support bases.

In his inaugural speech, Mark emphasized the need for internal reforms, party unity, and a broader national agenda.

“This moment represents a democratic rebirth, not only for the ADC but for the entire political landscape of Nigeria,” he stated.

“We will ensure that the ADC stands as a beacon of hope, transparency, and people-oriented leadership in the country.”

He also assured members that his leadership would prioritize youth and women inclusion, transparency in decision-making, and grassroots empowerment.

Political observers note that this leadership change could be a game-changer for the ADC, which has struggled to assert itself nationally despite years of grassroots presence and credible candidates.

There is now renewed optimism among party faithful that with David Mark at the helm, the ADC could emerge as a stronger force in the build-up to the 2027 general elections.

The party is expected to announce the full composition of the caretaker committee in the coming days, as consultations continue among stakeholders at national and state levels.

This development has stirred fresh interest in the ADC’s internal democracy and has positioned the party for what many describe as its most decisive chapter yet.
