Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu

The governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has promised workers in the state that his government will pay N85,000 minimum wage, instead of the N70,000 agreed by the federal government.

Governor Sanwo-Olu made the promise during an interview on Channels TV Wednesday evening.

The governor said: “You mentioned minimum wage and what I need to throw in for my people.

“I’m glad to let you know that the minimum wage for Lagos, which we’ve discussed with our union, is N85,000…

“It’s not a competition, so I’m not going to say that we’re paying more than some other people.

“It’s a function of affordability and a function of capacity,” he added.

It could be recalled that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had, three months ago on July 29, 2024, signed the new national minimum wage into law.

However, many states have yet to implement the N70,000 minimum wage.
