Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered the immediate arrest of the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, for allegedly creating tension in the state.

This comes after Bayero was  smuggled into Kano city on Saturday, attempting to forcefully return to the palace two days after being deposed by the Governor.

According to a statement by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sanusi Tofa, the Governor has directed the Commissioner of Police to arrest Bayero for disturbing public peace and attempting to destroy the relative peace in the state.

Bayero’s whereabouts had been unknown since his deposition on Thursday, but he returned to Kano on Saturday, sparking tension.

The state House of Assembly had repealed the law signed by ex-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje in 2019, which split the emirate into five and appointed Emirs to each.

Governor Yusuf has reinstated Muhammadu Sanusi as the Emir of Kano, issuing a reappointment letter on Friday.

Sanusi led Jumat prayers at the Government House, Kano, and was confirmed as the 16th Emir of Kano by the Governor.

The situation has sparked controversy, with Bayero’s supporters gathering in Kano.

The Governor’s order for Bayero’s arrest aims to maintain peace and stability in the state.
