2027: Edo Central Accord Candidate Kennedy Iyere Warns APC, INEC — “You Can’t Come To Edo And Rig Elections” Comrade Kennedy Iyere, a popular and controversial humanitarian activist and Edo Central Senatorial Candidate of the Accord Party, has issued a strong warning to the ruling All Progressives Congress, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and other political actors ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking during an interview on Diaspora Digital Media TV, Iyere declared that nobody would be allowed to rig elections in Edo Central, insisting that he would personally win his votes and defend every ballot cast for him. According to the Accord Party candidate, the era when politicians could manipulate elections through vote buying, intimidation, ballot manipulation or truncation of the electoral process must come to an end. He called on Nigerian youths to vote massively in 2027 and, more importantly, stand up to defend their votes. Iyere maintained that no security agency should be used to guarantee electoral victory for any presidential, governorship, senatorial or House of Representatives candidate, stressing that elections must be determined by the will of voters rather than through manipulation of the electoral process. The Edo Central senatorial candidate also expressed confidence that the 2027 elections would be won at the polling units rather than in courtrooms or at collation centres. He advocated real-time transmission of election results, arguing that Nigerian youths would play a major role in making electoral transparency possible. Iyere further declared that Edo Central would not be a territory where electoral malpractice would be tolerated. He said his supporters believe in peaceful and civil resistance, stressing that they do not believe in bloodshed but would use lawful and peaceful means to resist a system that does not work in the interest of the people. The activist also revealed that his 2027 senatorial bid represents his first time appearing on the ballot as a candidate, saying he would not return four years later merely as a “customer” to INEC. He said his objective is not simply to win a Senate seat, but to help “fix the Senate” and contribute to fixing the National Assembly so that Nigeria can function better. Iyere also took aim at Nigeria’s political system, criticizing what he described as the rise of individuals without the required leadership capacity into powerful political positions, while questioning how the country can function effectively under such a system. On INEC, Iyere raised concerns over rumours surrounding the integrity of the electoral process and alleged claims that INEC Chairman, Professor Amupitan, had been “hired to write results.” He warned that Nigerians would be watching the electoral commission closely and insisted that INEC must play by the rules. Court Rejects Bail Bid By Odogwu Asaba In Favour Agbro Case A Delta State court has rejected the bail application filed on behalf of Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as Odogwu Asaba, in connection with the case involving the late 20-year-old Favour Agbro. The development was disclosed on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, by Awele Ideal, counsel representing the family of the deceased. According to the lawyer, Ogbonna’s legal team had filed the bail application about three weeks ago, after which the legal representatives of Favour’s family submitted a response challenging the request for his release. The application was subsequently argued before the court on Tuesday, with the judge delivering a ruling that rejected the request for bail. In a statement, Awele Ideal said the court had declined to grant bail to Ogbonna, meaning he would continue to remain in custody pending the next stages of the legal proceedings. Following the ruling, Ogbonna remains at the Ogwashi-Uku Maximum Correctional Centre, where he has been held under a remand order. Ideal also reaffirmed her commitment to representing Favour’s family on a pro bono basis, saying she would continue to provide legal assistance and financial support to the family in their pursuit of justice. She further assured the public that updates would be provided as the matter progresses, while emphasizing the importance of ensuring that all relevant issues surrounding the case are thoroughly investigated. BACKGROUND TO THE CASE The latest court ruling comes days after Ogbonna was remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Maximum Correctional Centre. Reports indicate that the remand order was issued on September 4, 2026, following proceedings concerning allegations surrounding the alleged sexual assault and death of Favour Agbro. The case reportedly began after allegations that Favour travelled to Asaba following an invitation from the accused. The Delta State Police Command subsequently announced Ogbonna’s arrest in July 2026 after a complaint was lodged in connection with the allegations. DDM Learnt that investigations into the circumstances surrounding Favour’s death have included autopsy and toxicology examinations, with the resulting reports reportedly forwarded to the Delta State Ministry of Justice as part of the case file. The matter is expected to continue through the judicial and prosecutorial processes, while Ogbonna remains in custody following the court’s refusal to grant him bail. It is important to stress that the allegations against Ogbonna remain allegations and have not been finally established by the court.
