Anambra State-born businessman, Nwaejiofor Onuorah, has shared the harrowing experience he and his family endured after he was abducted by suspected kidnappers in Ogidi while travelling to Lagos.
According to Onuorah, the incident occurred while he was on a journey with his wife and their newborn twins. He recounted that the attackers intercepted their vehicle in Ogidi, forcefully taking him away while leaving his wife and the infants behind.
Describing the moment as terrifying, Onuorah said he was taken into a nearby bush, where he was held against his will. During his captivity, he alleged that the kidnappers seized his mobile phone and gained access to his bank accounts.
He further claimed that the assailants withdrew over ₦5 million before eventually abandoning him in Abatete, alongside another victim who had also been held captive.
The victim’s account highlights the growing concerns over insecurity and targeted financial exploitation by criminal groups, particularly along major travel routes. It also underscores the vulnerability of victims whose personal devices are used to access sensitive financial information.
While details surrounding the exact timeline of his release remain unclear, Onuorah expressed gratitude for surviving the ordeal, noting the emotional distress it caused his family, especially his wife who was left alone with their newborn children during the incident.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the case at the time of this report. However, the incident adds to increasing calls for improved security measures and stricter monitoring of financial fraud linked to kidnapping activities.
The situation continues to raise urgent questions about public safety and the protection of citizens traveling across the country.
