Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, yesterday talk say over 352 facilities even church and mosque don close down for different part of di state for di past year bicos of noise pollution and odir environmental wahala.

Di General Manager of LASEPA, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, talk dis one for him office for inside Ikeja, as him dey give one year report of wetin him don do to di media.

Ajayi talk say: ‘Residents dey like to dey misbehave well-well wen e come to dey follow simple regulations.

One major challenge of noise pollution be say afta we don enforce am, dem go follow for small time, before you know am, dem go start to dey misbehave again.

Dem go dey go back to di same offence. “Den we go start di process again. Di reason we fit make dem follow for small time na bicos dem dey pay fine and we dey shut dem down.

“No city for di world wey no dey use fine and penalty for violation.

Dey must be consequence for action. “No be only Naija problem, na global wahala.

Pipo dey tend to go back to bad behaviour. “Di use of microphone for bus stop and religious houses na major concern.

Even Christian worshippers dey come out wit very loud-loud speaker and microphone to take preach for public.

“We dey carry out studies on di air quality of di State like air quality sampling and monitoring for designated areas and develop air quality management database for di State.

Di Agency dey also create inventory of emissions for statutory and mobile sources and dey do modeling or configuration of simple interactive spreadsheets for partnership wit research organizations and agencies.

We dey encourage all organizations wey dey affect di environment well well to use Best Available Technology (BAT) while we dey provide training and relevant networking wey go help dem meet regulatory standards for business friendly cost.

To achieve him institutional responsibility, di agency dey committed to clean development and dey accredit Environmental Consultants wey no go compromise on professionalism, while dem activities dey monitored and reviewed every year by di Agency.

“We dey keep all environmental records as well as dey publish or archive plenty research publications or environmental reports.”

For successful regulation of di environment for Lagos, di Agency get strong collaboration wit other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) wey no dey limited to di Ministry of Environment.

Lagos Waste Management Authority, Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission, Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Ministry of Health.

As di implementing organ of di State’s policies on di environment, di Agency dey give preference and dey work hand in hand wit all environmental stakeholders as well as national and international agencies on di environment.

So, we dey work under di laws, treaties, regulations, conventions, conferences or agreements wey di national or state government don enter into concerning di environment.
