The Manager of current league leaders Liverpool, Arne Slot, has been handed a two-match touchline ban.

The ban follows his confrontation with referee Michael Oliver in their EPL game against Everton, the Merceyside derby, on Wednesday 12th February, 2025.

The ban is effective immediately.

The Manager has also been fined £70,000, according to the FA.

Slot confronted Oliver after Everton’s last-gasp equaliser in the final ever derby at Goodison Park, with Slot and his technical staff arguing the goal should not have stood.

The manager was seen confronting referee Michael Oliver, firmly shaking his hand and exchanging words.

This prompted the official to immediately brandish his red card.

Slot’s assistant Sipke Hulshoff was also banned.

Hulshoff got a 7,000 pounds fine for his behavior towards the match officials

In a statement by the FA, both Liverpool and Everton were fined based on the report alleging that both clubs failed to ensure proper conduct of their players and/or technical area occupants following the final whistle.

Everton and Liverpool admitted the charges, and the Regulatory Commission imposed £65,000 and £50,000 fines on them respectively after a hearing.

The ban on Arne Slot and Sipke Hulshoff means they will both be absent from the touchline for Liverpool’s next two Premier League games.

Specifically, Slot will miss the home games against Newcastle and Southampton, while Hulshoff will also serve a two-match touchline suspension.

In practical terms, this means that Liverpool’s assistant first-team coach, John Heitinga, will take on touchline duties in their absence.

However, it’s worth noting that Slot will still be allowed to be present at the stadium and communicate with his team during the games.

But he won’t be able to participate in the pre-match and halftime team talks or make tactical decisions from the touchline.

Liverpool currently sit at the top of the EPL with 64 points after 27 games.

They are 11 points ahead of Arsenal who are yet to play their matchday 27 game.
