Mojisola Meranda resigns as speaker Lagos HOA
says decision was to preserve the institution

Mojisola Meranda has resigned as the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
She resigned on Monday, March 3 at the ongoing plenary session.
She said she had to make the selfless sacrifice to preserve the institution.
The ongoing saga between Mojisola Moyosore and the Lagos State House of Assembly is a complex and dramatic leadership crisis.
Meranda who made history as the first female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has been at the centre of a power struggle since January 13, 2025, when Mudashiru Obasa was removed as Speaker by 32 out of 40 lawmakers.
Meranda’s appointment as Speaker was immediately challenged by Obasa, who claimed that his removal did not follow due process. The situation took a dramatic turn on Thursday, February 27, 2025, when Obasa stormed the Assembly with heavy security and held a plenary session with only four lawmakers, insisting that he was still the speaker..
The crisis had deepened divisions within the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Lagos, with the Governance dvisory Council (GAC) and party members aligning with either Obasa or Meranda.
Amidst the turmoil, lawmakers passed a vote of confidence in Meranda’s leadership during a plenary session on Monday, March 3, 2025.
It is this plenary that has witnessed the reported resignation of Mojisola Moyosore Meranda.
DDM will surely keep you posted on events as they unfold, following her resignation.
