Nepotism: Tinubu set to visit Qatar with family members, others
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has concluded plans to visit Qatar with several family members and some non-family others out of the thirty-eight people travelling with him, according to official document sighted by Diaspora Digital Media (DDM).
The document showed that Tinubu, the president of the most populous black nation, will go to Qatar with thirty-eight people, several of which are people related to him.
The co-travellers will include his son, Seyi Tinubu, one Yinka Tinubu and another Ade Tinubu, reported to be family members.
An observer told DDM that the list, which is predominantly Yorubas, has at least twenty of his tribes men out of the thirty-eight people.
Out of the twenty, the source noted, “the list included his distant cousins, nieces and nephews”.
See the list as contained in the official document below:
Tinubu has been accused of flagrant nepotism, worse than his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.
Former President Buhari was notorious for appointing only citizens of the northern, Fulani, Muslim stock during his administration.
Reports also showed that the aforementioned people made up a large chunk of the head of his security apparatchiks.
Tinubu, who has also been accused of nepotism, has been seen appointing only Yorubas, especially from Lagos, into his government to the chagrin of northerners.
The said northerners massively canvassed and voted for him during the 2023 presidential election but have been sidelined in his government.
This has caused undiluted uproar from the northern circle.
Recently, a northern Muslim cleric was seen in a video, which went viral, accusing Tinubu of distancing himself from northern Muslims after they “brought him to power”.
The least beneficiaries are those of the South East geopolitical zone, where Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), hailed from.
Speculations are rife that southeasterners voted massively for Mr. Obi during the 2023 presidential election.
This, according to South East residents, who spoke on social media and mainstream media, no doubt, attracted the negation reaction of Tinubu against the region.
