The All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised an alarm over the alleged mobilisation of political thugs to the Osun State Government House ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The party’s campaign media committee made the allegation on Friday through its spokesperson, Kehinde Ayantunji, during a press briefing at the Correspondents’ Chapel in Osogbo.
Ayantunji alleged that the suspected thugs were brought in from Lagos and accommodated at the Government House by Governor Ademola Adeleke and his team.
He claimed the group was being prepared to disrupt the election in parts of Osogbo and Egbedore if the electoral process did not favour the Accord Party and its candidate.
According to him, the APC had gathered intelligence indicating that the suspected thugs had been moving in and out of the Government House.
He further alleged that two individuals identified by the codenames Olowe and Iberu led the group, adding that the party had photographic evidence to support its claims.
Ayantunji alleged that the suspected thugs were being mobilised with funds and ammunition to target specific wards and communities in Osogbo, Irepodun and Egbedore Local Government Areas.
The APC called on security agencies and other stakeholders to investigate the allegations and prevent violence during the election.
The party also warned that Governor Adeleke should be held responsible for any attack on voters or its members if the alleged mobilisation is not stopped.
The allegations by the APC have not been independently verified, and no evidence establishing the involvement of Governor Adeleke or the named individuals has been publicly confirmed in the report.
