Nigeria Police declares Reno Omokri wanted, obtain remand order

The Nigeria Police Force has secured an order from the Chief Magistrate Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, to remand a social media influencer, Mr. Reno Omokri.
The order demands that Omokri be remanded in prison custody along with a former Dunamis Church Pastor, Abraham Daniel, along with two others – Mr. Enenche Enenche and Alexander Enenche.
Omokri, who was special assistant to former president Goodluck Jonathan, is expected to be remanded like Pastor Abraham Daniel and the Enenche brothers.
The court presided over by His Worship, Chief Emmanuel A. Iyanna, issued the remand warrant following an ex-parte motion filed by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on January 13, 2025.
Granting the ex-parte application filed by Francis Gabriel, Esq. on behalf of the Police Chief, in Motion No: ME/07/2025 Between Inspector General of Police as Applicant and Mr. Daniel Abraham, Mr. Enenche Idoga Alexander, Oboyinlo Enenche Peter and Mr. Reno Omokri as 1st to 4th Respondents, the Chief Magistrate directed the Police to produce the Respondents on return of next court date on January 30, 2025.
Iyanna held: “Upon hearing the application and submissions of learned Francis Gabriel, Esq., and upon careful consideration of the averments, the annextures and issues as raised in the submissions of the applicant, the application is hereby granted as prayed.
“It is hereby ordered as follows: An Order of this Honourable Court for remand warrant of the Respondents (i) Mr. Daniel Abraham (ii) Mr. Enenche Idoga Alexander (iii) Oboyinlo Enenche Peter And (iv) Mr. Reno Omokri in the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Service pending investigation, arraignment/prosecution.
“It is here ordered that the Respondents be arraigned before a Court of competent jurisdiction after the conclusion of the said investigation.
“On the return date, the Respondents should be produced.
“The matter is adjourned to 30th day of January, 2025.”
His remand warrant was predicated on a petition to the Inspector General of Police by Patrick O. Okolo, SAN against Mr Reno Omokri, Gistlover Blog, Aunty Abdul, Peter Obonyiro, Kelechi TV and their agents and co-conspirators for alleged defamation.
Who is Reno Omokri?
Born on January 22, 1974, in Kaduna, Nigeria, Reno Omokri hails from Delta State, Nigeria.
Omokri holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from the University of Benin and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the American InterContinental University.
Omokri began his career as a columnist, writing for various Nigerian newspapers, including ThisDay and The Guardian.
He later became the Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on New Media from 2011 to 2015.
Omokri is a prominent social media influencer, with a large following on platforms like X, Instagram, and Facebook.
He uses his social media presence to share his opinions on politics, social issues, and current events.
Omokri has written several books, including “Shunpiking: No Shortcuts to God,” “Why Jesus Wept,” and “Leah Sharibu: The Girl Boko Haram Left Behind.”
Omokri is involved in various humanitarian efforts, including the #FreeLeahSharibu movement, which advocates for the freedom of Leah Sharibu, a Christian girl kidnapped by Boko Haram.
He has also worked with organizations like the United Nations and the African Union.
Omokri has received several awards for his humanitarian work, including the Humanitarian of the Year award at the Hollywood Weekly Magazine Film Festival.
