Akwa Ibom: Urueoffong Oruko LG Chairman, Uno, unveils 100 days scorecard

The Executive Chairman of Urue Offong/Oruko Local Government Council, Rt. Hon. (Chief) Uno Etim Uno, has marked his first 100 days in office with a media parley.
Uno highlighted his administration’s achievements within the period under review, including the restoration of electric power to the secretariat, provision of furniture for principal officers and councillors, and the repair of the failed Eyulor-Oruko Road.
“We have decided to start with providing accommodations for teachers within the school premises,” Chairman Uno said. “We believe that this will help to improve the quality of education in our schools.”
The Chairman also emphasized his commitment to healthcare, education, and economic empowerment, citing the inspiration and guidance provided by Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno.
In the area of education, Chairman Uno announced plans to engage part-time teachers in core subjects, especially the sciences, and establish JAMB preparatory centres to equip secondary school students for tertiary education.
In addition, the council boss has prioritized rural development, providing solar streetlights to illuminate the secretariat and extending them to the entire local government headquarters.
He has also graded and opened rural roads to facilitate movement of agricultural produce and enhance commerce.
Uno further disclosed that his administration has provided funds for widows of old soldiers and fallen heroes to start businesses, and has relocated to his village in the local government area to interact closely with the people and appreciate their needs better.
The Chairman also highlighted his administration’s efforts in security and sanitation, engaging and paying village cleaners, and providing CCTV cameras to enhance security within the council secretariat.
In line with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, Chairman Uno has adopted a five-point vision, prioritizing agriculture revolution, educational advancement, ruraldevelopment/security/sanitation/environmental management, healthcare delivery, and economic empowerment/wealth creation.
“Our greatest legacy will be the unity of our people,” Chairman Uno said.
“Thankfully, ever since we came on board, partisanship has taken the backseat in this local government area. Our people from other political parties have identified with us, and we are working together to build a great local government which our children will be proud of.”
He expressed his gratitude to Governor Umo Eno for his support and guidance, saying, “We were inspired by the report of the Needs Assessment Committee and the ARISE Agenda to summarize our five-point vision into a slogan ‘A NEW URUE OFFONG/ORUKO IS POSSIBLE’.”
The event was attended by media representatives, local government officials, and community leaders.
