Nigerian governor explains choice of young politician to replace impeached deputy

Nigeria’s Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, defended his decision to swear in a 38-year-old, Omobayo Marvellous Godwins, as the new Deputy Governor of the State, stating that it demonstrates his unshakable in the youth.
The governor expressed that the appointment of the new deputy governor will bring energy and vigor to the state’s leadership and will help in uniting various interests towards the common goal of a prosperous and strong state.
His former deputy, Phillip Shuaibu, was impeached on Monday by the the state lawmakers and the new deputy sworn in some hours later
DDM had earlier updated that deputy governors in Nigeria rarely survive onslaughts as soon as they fall out with their principals.
In his decision to chose a new deputy, Obaseki emphasized his belief in the potential of youth to drive positive change and mentioned that the new deputy governor symbolizes this belief. He also acknowledged the challenges faced during his tenure and the recent events that led to the appointment of a new deputy governor.
The new Deputy Governor, Omobayo Marvellous, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and pledged to work closely with the Governor to achieve their goals. He praised the Governor’s leadership style and expressed his commitment to supporting and complementing the Governor’s work.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City, officiated by the Edo State Chief Judge. The appointment followed the impeachment of the former Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, by the Edo State House of Assembly.
Various dignitaries attended the swearing-in ceremony, including Governor Obaseki, members of the Edo State House of Assembly, party leaders, and traditional leaders from Akoko-Edo, among others.
