Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has publicly expressed appreciation to his legal team and family members after a major legal victory in Kenya.

According to Diaspora digital media (DDM) reports, a High Court in Kenya recently ruled that Kanu’s arrest and extradition from Nairobi to Nigeria in 2021 were illegal and unconstitutional.

The judgment marked a significant development in the long-running case surrounding his controversial transfer to Nigeria.

Kanu, who remains in the custody of Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS), conveyed his message through his lead counsel, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor. The statement was shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

“Rising from today’s visitation,” Ejimakor wrote, “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu took the opportunity to hail his lawyers and siblings for the stunning victory from Kenya.”

The IPOB leader also sent a message to those skeptical about the communications from his legal team.

According to Ejimakor, Kanu extended “an open invitation to anyone who doubts the messages delivered on his behalf through his lawyers to personally visit him in DSS custody.”

The recent court ruling in Kenya not only declared the 2021 extradition illegal but also awarded Kanu damages for the violation of his rights.

The court criticized the manner of his arrest, describing it as a breach of both domestic and international legal procedures.

The ruling has been hailed by his supporters as a vindication of Kanu’s long-standing claim that he was unlawfully taken from Kenya in what his legal team described as an “extraordinary rendition.”

Kanu’s legal team has since reiterated calls for his release in Nigeria, arguing that the judgment further invalidates the charges brought against him following his forced return.

The case continues to spark strong reactions both within Nigeria and internationally, as debates around due process, sovereignty, and human rights remain at the center of the controversy.
