Nursing students in Agbor reject first lady Remi Tinubu
DDM News

Students at the College of Nursing, Agbor, Delta State, rejected Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, as their “mother” during her visit.
Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that the incident happened on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, during an official event attended by the First Lady at the institution.
A viral video shared by Newsleverage captured the students’ reaction when the Master of Ceremony (MC) praised Mrs. Tinubu.
During the event, the MC referred to the First Lady as the “mother of the nation,” expecting a positive response.
Instead of affirming the statement, the students rejected the title in an unexpected and emphatic manner.
The MC sang, “Na our mama be this ooo, we don’t have another, na our mama be this ooo.”
Traditionally, such statements receive a chorus of agreement from the audience at public gatherings.
However, instead of responding in agreement, the nursing students said, “Na your mama be this ooo.”
Their response made it clear that they did not accept the First Lady as their “mother.”
The reason behind their reaction remains unclear, but many believe it is linked to Nigeria’s current economic crisis.
Over the past year, inflation and high food prices have made life difficult for many Nigerians.
Students and workers have been particularly affected by rising costs and economic instability.
The government’s policies, including subsidy removals, have led to increased hardship for ordinary citizens.
Many young people feel abandoned by the administration, struggling with high tuition fees and poor job opportunities.
This rejection of Mrs. Tinubu reflects growing public dissatisfaction with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government.
The First Lady’s visit to Agbor was part of her nationwide outreach program for women and students.
Her initiatives focus on empowerment, education, and economic support for young Nigerians.
However, the students’ reaction suggests that public frustration with the government remains strong.
The viral video has sparked widespread debate on social media platforms.
Some Nigerians have praised the students for expressing their dissatisfaction with the government.
Others believe their response was disrespectful during an official visit.
Public opinion remains divided on whether their reaction was justified or inappropriate.
The Presidency has not yet released an official statement regarding the incident.
This event highlights the growing disconnect between Nigerian youths and the government.
As economic challenges persist, many citizens feel neglected and unheard by the nation’s leaders.
The students’ reaction in Agbor may be a reflection of wider frustration across the country.
