Obaze, Ohaegbu, Others Scold Soludo Over “No Vacancy” Rant

Citizens of Anambra State from all walks of life have chastised Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo over his recent comment that “there is no vacancy” in the Anambra State Government House.

Prof. Soludo made the comment at a lecture to mark the third year anniversary of His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano, on 17th March, 2017, at Governor’s Lodge, Awka.

Responding to the comment, a former Secretary to the State government, and Anambra governorship election aspirant, Mr. Oseloka H. Obaze regretted that Soludo could make such rash statement.

He said: “I respect Prof. Charles Soludo highly as an economist. I also respect his right of free thought and speech.

“Yet I consider it impolitic for anyone to declare that “there is no vacancy” in the Anambra State Government House as he did.

“The Constitution stipulates such vacancy every four years, which is why even the incumbent is running for re-election and soliciting endorsement.”

Mr. Obaze is contesting the Anambra governorship election under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP].

Obaze, Ohaegbu, others chastised Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo over his recent comment that Also, reacting, former chairman of Public Complaints Commission [PCC], FCT chapter, Abuja, and current secretary to the Anambra Union, Barrister Obunike Ohaegbu, dismissedProf Soludo’s speech as vain.

Mr. Obunike Ohaegbu

He said: “From what I read online, Prof. Soludo said that several people have urged him to contest but he believes that there would no vacancy for him to contest in the next four years.

“For me, as the Secretary of the Anambra Union, Prof. Soludo’s position is on all fours with that of Anambra Union.

“You know that the former CBN Governor is from Anambra South and we in ANAMBRA UNION are of the view that Anambra South and Anambra Central should allow our brothers and sisters from the North to complete the second four years of their eight years.

“However, in Anambra Union, we believe that Anambra State should be reconnected to the Centre Politically.

“It has nothing to do with Obiano as a person but it was a well-considered opinion that APGA is not the vehicle we need to get reconnected to the Centre.

“Of course, I do not understand the views he expressed on the Anambra State economy under Obiano .

“Although, I am not an economist but I know that under Obiano, the Nnewi South LGA has received over N3b from the Federation account.

“I cannot point at anything the State government has done with that huge sum in Ukpor, the headquarters of the Local government.

“As at today, there is no local government system in Anambra State.  We have neither elected officials in charge of our LGs nor even appointed ones.

“As at today, the civil servant in charge of Nnewi South is not even from our Federal Constituency.

“This is purely unacceptable especially from a supposedly democratically elected governor of the State. It is IMPUNITY.  I believe we deserve better.”

Mr. Ohaegbu wondered who Soludo is that he will dictate to Ndi Anambra who should wear the cap after the 2017 state gubernatorial election.

Another passionate Anambrarian, who craved anonymity, lambasted Prof Soludo, saying “he traded Anambra for 100 million Naira given to him.”

“Every 4 years there is a constitutional vacancy that must be filled with ballot powers, but Since Charles Soludo who is a professor did not know that, it means he’s lost touch with reality and need to be tutored once again,” he stated.

He claimed that Soludo compromised following a promise to succeed Governor Willie Obiano, coupled with assurance that Isuofia, his town, will be divided in half, then handed over to him as autonomous community.

He, therefore, warned the Indigenous People of Biafra [IPOB] and their leader, Nnamdi Kanu to be wary of him and “read the hand writing in the wall.”

He had announced Soludo’s selling of Anambra state over 2 months ago and, according to him, “yesterday he delivered the selling without iota of conscience, after all he was paid with what he craves most.”

It could be recalled that Prof. Soludo, recently in the company of eminent Igbo elites, paid a solidarity visit to Nnamdi Kanu in Kuje prison.

They, thereafter, issued strong-worded statement demanding for Kanu’s immediate release.

It is also pertinent to add that Soludo was a governorship aspirant under the All Progressives grand Alliance [APGA] but lost in the primaries to Willie Obiano.

Meanwhile, several other Anambra State citizens, including those that formed part of Obiano’s cabinet, like Dr. Elo Afoka has resolved that Obiano must be stopped at all cost before he ruins the material prosperity Anambra State boasted of under former governor, Peter Obi.
