Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has reacted to the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the National Assembly.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that Ezekwesili, a vocal advocate for democracy and good governance, spoke after hearing Akpoti-Uduaghan’s final statement before leaving the Senate chamber.

The Senate, led by President Godswill Akpabio, recently suspended Akpoti-Uduaghan for alleged violations of Senate rules.

According to Channels Television, the suspension, set for six months, was imposed over what the Senate described as a breach of legislative procedures.

Akpabio declared that the Kogi senator had brought both the presiding officer and the entire Senate into public disrepute.

He cited the Senate Standing Rules (2023, as amended) as the basis for the disciplinary measure.

The decision has triggered widespread reactions, including strong remarks from Ezekwesili, who took to social media to express her views.

Oby Ezekwesili, in a post on her official X handle, highlighted the importance of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s last words before leaving the chamber.

She quoted the senator’s assertion that “injustice shall not be sustained,” stressing the significance of the statement.

Ezekwesili, known for her fearless stance on governance, suggested that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s words carried deep meaning for Nigeria’s democracy.

“The wise among them will be haunted by this until her words surely come to pass,” Ezekwesili wrote.

She added that those who lack insight might fail to understand the weight of the senator’s statement.

Ezekwesili emphasized that for all who care about democratic principles, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s words should not be ignored.

The former minister’s remarks reflect her long-standing advocacy for justice, transparency, and accountability in governance.

Ezekwesili, a former World Bank Vice President, has consistently criticized actions that undermine democratic values in Nigeria.

Her involvement in the Bring Back Our Girls movement cemented her reputation as a defender of human rights and civic freedoms.

Over the years, she has challenged policies and decisions she believes threaten democracy, including restrictions on free speech.

Her response to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension aligns with her history of standing against perceived political suppression.

Many Nigerians who follow Ezekwesili’s political commentary see her as a fearless advocate for good governance.

Some social media users supported her position, arguing that the Senate’s action raised concerns about fairness and legislative integrity.

Others defended the Senate’s decision, insisting that lawmakers must adhere strictly to procedural guidelines.

The controversy surrounding Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension remains a topic of national debate, with opinions sharply divided.

Ezekwesili’s reaction has amplified discussions on whether the suspension was justified or politically motivated.

Her message implies that history will judge the Senate’s actions and the individuals behind the decision.

For now, Akpoti-Uduaghan remains suspended, but her final words continue to spark discussions in political and civic spaces.

As Ezekwesili noted, only time will reveal the true consequences of this decision.
