Doyin Okupe is dead

Dr. Doyin Okupe, a renowned Nigerian physician, politician, and former presidential aide, has passed away at the age of 72.

According to sources close to the family, Dr. Okupe had been critically ill in the weeks leading up to his demise, with his health deteriorating significantly.

Diaspora Digital Media gathered that his death was linked to cancer, marking the end of a long struggle with the illness.

Dr. Okupe was first diagnosed with prostate cancer 16 years ago and later developed sarcoma in his right shoulder.

In October 2023, he was hospitalized with prostate cancer and flown to Israel for treatment, but unfortunately, his condition did not improve as expected.

Dr. Okupe had a distinguished career in Nigerian politics and public service.

He was a former presidential spokesperson to Peter Obi, candidate of the Labour Party in the last presidential election, and a former governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.

He also co-founded Royal Cross Medical Centre and served as the National Publicity Secretary of the National Republican Convention.

In a related development, Abia State Commissioner for Labour and Productivity, Comrade Sunny Nwaganga Onwuma, has passed away.

He died on Monday, March 3, 2025, after a brief illness, and his death was announced on Thursday by Prince Okey Kanu, the Hon. Commissioner for Information.

Comrade Onwuma was 61 years old and is survived by his wife and four children.

He was from Ihie in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area of Abia State and was an alumnus of Government College Umuahia and Abia State University, Uturu.

Onwuma was a dedicated member of the Labour Party and a respected leader within his community.

The family will announce burial arrangements in due course.

In other news, Wema Bank is set to commemorate International Women’s Day 2025, rewarding 131 women with N11,000,000 in cash prizes.

First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has also commented on the recent altercation between the Senate President and Senator Natasha, stating that the Senate is handling the matter appropriately.
