The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, has pointed to the judiciary as the primary source of the ongoing political unrest in the state.

Speaking at a press conference in Port Harcourt, Diaspora digital media (DDM) revailed that Okocha criticized the judiciary for its role in the current crisis, stating that it has been complicit in fueling the state’s political turmoil.

Okocha’s remarks came in response to comments made by former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who controversially stated that President Bola Tinubu would not relinquish power in 2027.

Amaechi had declared that politicians in Nigeria were primarily motivated by greed, violence, and the desire to cling to power, and suggested that Tinubu would not step down in 2027, fueling speculation about the President’s intentions.

Reacting sharply to these comments, Okocha accused Amaechi of stoking public unrest and attempting to undermine the government.

He also condemned Amaechi for allegedly failing to bring significant development to the South-South region during his time as a minister.

According to Okocha, Amaechi’s leadership lacked the focus and vision needed to drive progress in the region.

Okocha went further to attribute the political instability in Rivers State to the judiciary.

He alleged that judges were making decisions on the state’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) congresses even when higher courts had already issued contrary rulings.

This, he claimed, undermined the rule of law and contributed to the ongoing political strife.

The APC chairman accused the judiciary of being biased and of playing a significant role in the political crisis that has gripped the state.

Okocha’s assertion highlighted the growing frustration within the APC, which feels sidelined by the legal system’s decisions.

He emphasized that the judiciary’s intervention in political matters, without regard to higher court rulings, was eroding public confidence in the justice system.

Okocha also took a moment to criticize Amaechi for his alleged failure to secure meaningful infrastructure projects for the South-South region during his tenure as Minister of Transportation.

According to Okocha, Amaechi’s leadership did little to address the needs of the region, further deepening the sense of disillusionment among the people of Rivers State.

In conclusion, Okocha’s statement serves as a direct challenge to both the judiciary and Amaechi.

The APC chairman’s criticism underscores the frustration and distrust that have emerged within the state’s political landscape, with calls for greater accountability and a return to the rule of law.
