Residents of Ayegunle Bunu in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State were thrown into fear and confusion after armed bandits attacked the community in the early hours of Monday.
The attackers reportedly stormed the area around 2:25 a.m., killing one person and abducting more than 30 others.
Local sources said two residents of the community a man and a woman were among those taken away by the gunmen. The majority of the victims, however, were passengers travelling in a commercial bus that was intercepted while passing through the area.
One person was also reported injured during the attack.
The incident has heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of Kogi State, particularly along routes frequently targeted by kidnappers and armed gangs.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the attack, while efforts were ongoing to determine the exact number of people abducted and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Residents say fear has gripped the community as families await information about the whereabouts of their loved ones.
The latest attack adds to a growing list of abductions and violent incidents recorded across several communities in the North-Central region in recent months.
