Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has surpassed legendary forward Segun Odegbami on Nigeria’s all-time goal scorers list.

According to Diaspora digital media (DDM) reports, he reached this milestone by scoring his 24th international goal in Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda on Friday.

The 26-year-old striker capitalized on a perfectly delivered free kick from Ademola Lookman during the crucial encounter.

Positioned at the far post, Osimhen executed a brilliant touch to send the ball into the net.

His goal gave Nigeria an early lead in the match, boosting their chances in the World Cup qualifying campaign.

With this goal, Osimhen climbed to second place in Nigeria’s all-time goal chart behind the legendary Rashidi Yekini.

Yekini, who passed away in 2012, remains Nigeria’s top scorer with 37 international goals.

Osimhen, known for his pace and clinical finishing, has emerged as Nigeria’s most consistent goal scorer in recent years.

His rise to prominence began with his impressive performances at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.

During the tournament, he won the Golden Boot by scoring a record 10 goals as Nigeria lifted the trophy.

His outstanding displays earned him a move to Wolfsburg in Germany, marking the beginning of his European club career.

Osimhen later played for Charleroi in Belgium and Lille in France before joining Napoli in 2020.

In Italy, he became one of the top strikers in Serie A, winning the league title with Napoli in 2023.

Currently playing for Galatasaray, Osimhen has been in outstanding form throughout the 2024–25 season.

He has scored 20 goals and provided four assists in 20 matches in the Turkish Super Lig.

Across all competitions, he has registered 26 goals and five assists in 30 appearances.

Osimhen equaled Odegbami’s record last November in Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Benin in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

Now, with 24 international goals, he is edging closer to breaking Yekini’s long-standing national record.

If he maintains this form, Osimhen could soon become Nigeria’s greatest goal scorer of all time.
