IBADAN, OYO STATE – The Oyo State chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on party members to intensify mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections, with a strong declaration to unseat the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

The party leadership made the call during a stakeholders’ meeting where candidates were presented and strategic plans were discussed to strengthen the party’s electoral chances across Oyo State.

The chairman urged members to remain united and committed to the party’s objectives, stressing that sustained grassroots engagement would be critical to achieving electoral success in 2027.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, New Democratic Congress, has in recent months increased its political activities across several states, including candidate selection processes and internal mobilisation campaigns.

Party officials in Oyo State emphasised the need for discipline, coordination, and consistent outreach to voters at the ward and local government levels.

The leadership also called on supporters to take advantage of political opportunities to expand the party’s presence in communities currently dominated by rival political parties.

Political observers note that Oyo State remains a key battleground in Southwest politics, with strong competition traditionally between major parties and emerging political platforms.

The Peoples Democratic Party, Peoples Democratic Party, currently holds significant influence in the state, making any challenge from opposition parties a major political undertaking.

Analysts say the NDC’s increasing rhetoric reflects broader national efforts by emerging parties to position themselves as viable alternatives ahead of future elections.

The chairman reportedly presented aspirants for various elective positions, encouraging them to begin early engagement with constituents and strengthen their visibility within their respective communities.

Supporters at the meeting expressed optimism about the party’s prospects, citing growing interest among young voters and dissatisfaction with existing political structures.

However, political commentators caution that translating internal party enthusiasm into electoral victory will require strong organisation, resources, and sustained voter outreach.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of unity within the party, with leaders warning against internal divisions that could weaken its chances in competitive constituencies.

As political activities continue to build toward 2027, parties across Nigeria are increasingly focusing on early mobilisation, candidate positioning, and strategic alliances.

The NDC in Oyo State says it remains committed to expanding its influence and presenting itself as a credible alternative in the state’s political landscape.
